The Adventures of General McIntyre
“Mom! Guess what Guess what!”I screamed running into the living room with my ipod touch in hand.
“What?”my mom asked seeming totally disinterested. She probably knew what I was going to say because apparently moms can predict the future or something like that.
“New Kids on the Block just landed in Boston and they’re doing a special concert for only 100 fans and an after party to follow!” I exclaimed jumping like a freak,” I WANNA GO I WANNA GO!”
“And how am I supposed to buy tickets for this concert?” my mom asked with regret. Every time I run into the living room shouting with excitement, it’s always for the same reason: New Kids on the Block. New Kids on the Block is my favorite band of all time and always will be.
“You don’t have to buy the tickets; I have to enter a contest. The winner gets to meet NKOTB before the concert, go to the concert, sit front row, and receive an awesome goody bag! Isn’t that great?”I beamed as I plopped myself on to the couch. Just the thought of being able to meet NKOTB makes me blush.
“And what if the Block Nation takes up those 100 seats? Then what will you do?” Gregory challenged me. Gregory is my step-dad, but he LOVES to bug me. And the Block Nation, ugh, just thinking of them makes me want to barf. The Block Nation is a group of exactly 100 fans that love NKOTB more than anyone except me of course. They always score the best tickets before I do which bugs me.
“Listen, General McIntyre will NOT let the Block Nation defeat her this time! She will win that contest and meet NKOTB even if it’s the last thing she does!” I declared. General McIntyre is my alter-ego. She’s the most dedicated NKOTB fan to live and she leads a one-woman army, herself. As for where I got McIntyre from, McIntyre is the last name of my favorite NKOTB member, Joey McIntyre. Joey is beyond words. His amazing smile, gorgeous blue eyes, and heart melting voice make me blush.
“Ok General. Whatever you say,” my mom laughed exchanging a nervous glance with Gregory.
“Mom, one more question. Do you mind driving me to Fenway Park? I have to enter the contest there. Please mommy?” I asked giving her the puppy dog face.
“Fine, but did you do your homework?” my mom asked with that mom-ish tone in her voice.
“Of course I did! Let’s go!!!!!” I exclaimed running out the door pulling my mom behind me.
“We’re here!” my mom announced as I flew out of the car and into the stadium, ”Can you relax? You look like a little jumping bean!”
“Mommy! Be careful what you say because the Block Nation might be around!!!! I screeched as my mom laughed at my panic.
“Why are you panicking? It’s not that serious!”
“Yes it is! The Block Nation is always trying to find a way to embarrass me!”
“You bet we are,” Esmeralda said as she walked toward me with the Block Nation right behind her.
“Esmeralda, go tick off someone else! I’m not in the mood!” I roared at the evil leader of my arch enemies
“ You are actually right for once. I must be on my way. After all, I just entered the contest of a lifetime,” she shot back with her hideous evil grin,” Bye bye and break a leg…literally!”
“Mom! I have to win!” I insisted,” I can’t let Esmeralda beat me again!”
“You will win…let’s go inside and enter that contest,” my mom reassured me as we walked in.
“Hi, I would like to enter the New Kids on the Block contest, is it still open to the public?” I asked the woman at the desk.
“Yes, it is. What is your name and phone number, sweetheart?”
“Kiana Harrison and 620-985-3456.”
“Ok, we will contact you at 3:00 notifying you if you won. Have a nice day!” the woman replied as she typed my information into the computer.
I have to win this contest. And if I do, what will I wear and how will I react if I meet NKOTB? I’ve always dreamed of meeting them, but I never really thought of how I would react if I did meet them. “Well, I’ll find out in exactly two hours.”
It’s 2:58 and I’m freaking out. Only two more minutes until I find out if I won the contest of a lifetime. “Mommy! It’s 2:59!!!!” I screamed as my mom and Gregory rushed into the living room. I clutched my lucky Joey necklace as we all stared at my phone waiting for it to ring.
“Step by Step ooh baby! Gonna get to you girl!” my phone blasted as it vibrated across the table. Next thing I knew, my hand flew to the phone and…
“Hello?” I answered staring at my mom still clutching my necklace.
“ Is this Kiana Harrison?” a friendly voice asked me.
“Yes, this is her speaking.”
“ Kiana? You won the contest! Congratulations!” the voice exclaimed.
“ OH MY GOD!!!!! Thank you so much!” I shrieked as my mom and Greg’s faces brightened up.
“No problem. All you have to do is go to Fenway Park and claim the tickets by 3:30.”
“Ok, thank you so much!” I said as I hung up the phone,” I WON THE CONTEST! I’M GOING TO MEET NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK!!!!!”
“I knew you would win!” my mom smiled as she hugged me tightly,” General McIntyre always gets what she wants!”
“We have to leave now to go claim the tickets. Are you coming Greg?” I beamed as I grabbed my phone and slid on my blue oversized NKOTB sweater.
“Of course! Let’s go!” Greg yelled as we all ran in to the car and sped off.
“My dream is coming true! I can’t believe it’s really happening!!!!”I thought to myself as I felt my face turn bright red as we pulled up to the main entrance.
”I’ll go in and get them. Just wait here,” I said as I ran out the car and into the building.
“Hi sweetheart! Congrats!!!” the same woman who entered my information into the computer smiled.
“Hi and thank you!” I said as I struggled to catch my breath.
“Here they are! And enjoy the concert. I hear it’s going to be great.”
“Thank you!!!” I yelled as I ran out the door and flew into my car. “I got them!”I declared as my mom and Greg clapped and cheered.
“Great, now let’s go home, eat and choose your outfit. You have to look great when you meet the guys,” my mom smiled as my eyes began to water. I just can’t believe I’m going to meet NKOTB.
“I never thought this day would come!” I thought in my head, ”And thank god my hair is straight!”
“Kiana! We’re leaving in five minutes! Hurry up!” my mom called from the living room.
I decided to go with a pair of white shorts, my white NKOTB shirt, my lucky Joey necklace, my NKOTB charm bracelet, and my sky blue ballet flats. My outfit made me feel lucky and confident.
“Do you have your NKOTB bag?” my mom asked.
“Check!” I responded.
“Your favorite NKOTB album, The Block?”
“And your ipod touch?”
“Check! We’re ready to leave!” I exclaimed.
“Ok, let’s go!” my mom said as we all got into the car.
“We’re here!” Greg said as we all got out of the car.
“OH MY GOD! I’m about to meet NKOTB!!!! Mom, record on your camera and take pictures with my Ipod,” I said as my mom locked the doors.
“Yes General!” my mom laughed taking my Ipod and camera from my hand.
The line outside wasn’t long and none of the women online were Esmeralda or her stupid little minions.
“Well look who we have here! General Kiana McIntyre is here at the concert!” Esmeralda laughed as her minions joined in at her dumb comment.
“You obviously haven’t heard the news Esmeralda. I won the contest and you didn’t!” I boasted as Esmeralda’s jaw hit the concrete floor.
“YOU WHAT?!” Esmeralda panicked, ”But WE don’t have tickets!”
“Well, that’s not my problem. Anyway, I have a meet and greet to catch. See you later loser!” I laughed as Gregory and I exchanged a pound and walked off.”
“Miss, can I please see your pass?” the huge security guard demanded with a deep voice that gave me goosebumps.
I handed the guard my pass and he nodded saying, ”You go in that way and one of the assistants will direct you to where you need to be. Have a nice day.”
“Thank you!” I said skipping in through the door as all the other fans stared in shock. “Yeah, I won the contest!” I said to a fan who rolled her eyes with jealousy.
“Are you Kiana Harrison?” a young woman asked as she stuck out her hand for me to shake.
“Yes, I’m Kiana,” I beamed shaking the woman’s hand.
“Hi Kiana. Congrats on winning the contest. I’m Katherine and I’m going to show you where you’ll meet the guys,” she explained as she led me into a big room with couches and snacks set up on a long table by a HUGE plasma television.”This is where you’ll meet the guys. They’ll be here in 10 minutes, so help yourself to anything on the table. Have fun!” Katherine smiled as she shut the door behind her.
“Mom, I’m freaking out. This is so unreal!” I squealed as I sat down on the couch, ”What should I say to them?”
“Don’t worry. Something will come to you,” my mom said putting her hand on my shoulder.
“Don’t worry short stuff. You’ll be fine. After all, you are General McIntyre,” Gregory said as there was a knock at the door, ”Come in.”
The door opened and a security guard entered the room.”You have ten minutes,” he said and NKOTB entered the room. I stood up and stared at them. I was starstruck! There they were Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Jon Knight, and Danny Wood standing only five feet away.
“Hi,” I managed to say as I turned my head and stared at Joey. His gorgeous blue eyes are even prettier in person. I guess he opened his arms for a hug because the next thing I knew Joey and I were hugging.
“Oh my god it’s so nice to meet you! I’m your biggest fan! I love you so much!” I said as tears began to roll down my cheeks.
“It’s nice to meet you too. Kiana, right?” Jordan asked as I gave him a huge hug.
“Yeah,” I said as I gave Donnie a hug as well. I was standing in the middle of Joey and Donnie when my mom said, ”Picture time!” We all turned and smiled. Then, the best thing happened. Joey put his arm around me and my mom snapped the picture. I looked up and stared into his eyes as my mom took a picture of that special moment.
“Can you sign my shirt and album?” I asked holding the shirt and CD out.
“Of course, sweetheart,” Joey smiled and signed both my shirt and CD. He then passed it to Jordan and he signed it as well.
Next thing I knew, Donnie was handing my signed stuff and said, ”Here you go Kiana.”
“Thank you,” I sighed as he hugged me. I guess my time was up because the security guard walked in and said, “Time’s up!”
I turned to them and said, “You guys are my inspiration to become a singer when I grow-up. I love your music and you guys are so sweet. This has been the best day of my life.”
“Aw, thank you Kiana. That was very sweet. It was nice meeting you,” Jon said as he hugged me.
As I walked out, I turned around and said, “Joey, I love you.”
“Are you happy?” my mom said hugging me tightly as I cried my eyes out.
“That was so cool! And we got every second of it on video and every special moment in pictures!” Gregory laughed as we got to our seats for the concert.
The concert started and I was back in heaven. Then the last song began. My favorite, Summertime from the album, The Block. When my favorite part came on, Joey looked at me, smiled, and winked. I clapped my hand to my mouth and began to cry.
“I got that on video,” Gregory smiled as the concert ended. I walked out of Fenway Park knowing that I defeated the Block Nation and met New Kids on the Block.
“This is the best day of my life!” I screamed with the little voice I had left from screaming.
